Winston

Picture

Quick Bio

Age: 10 years old
Breed: French Bulldog
Gender: Male (neutered)
Weight: 27 lbs.
Status: Sanctuary (not available for adoption)
Crate Trained: Yes
Potty Trained: Fecal incontinent
Dogs OK? Dog selective
Cats OK? No
Kids OK? No
Special Needs? Yes: Mobility Issues, fecal incontinence, behavioral
Personality: Typical grumpy old French guy.  Feisty, curious, "no nonsense" attitude. He used to love to cuddle ; but within the last few months he appreciates his space. He likes sleeping in his bed, or at the end of the bed on his own blanket.

Favorites:
Treats: He likes anything: freeze dried raw, freeze dried beef liver, probiotic treats, skin & coat treats, hip & joint treats
Toys: He likes to carry around smaller toys that fit in his mouth, and he loves to chew on Benebones

Behavioral Concerns: He's a resource guarder. He is a little snippy if anyone makes quick movements or touches him without him knowing first. Again, Winston will NOT be adopted to a family with children.

Behavior with others:
Other dogs: He coexists with other dogs in the home as long as they are mellow or submissive dog.
He is also a resource guarder, so toys and treats need to be enjoyed separately.
Cats: As long as they dont get in his face.
Kids: No children; will bite if touched.

Medical: He's a mess. Hot mess. His back end doesn't really work, but he still tries to run a million miles an hour. He had weekly chiropractic sessions and cold laser, but that didn't help. Despite doing an MRI and  having three vets on board with his care, no one is 100% sure what's causing his issue. It may be a progressive condition. We're really just trying to make him comfortable.

But he sure is cute y'all!

Winston Pupdate

In November 2018, we thought we were going to lose Winston. His health was rapidly declining, and he was in a lot of pain after pulling a muscle in his neck and dealing with his limited back leg mobility. Winston quit eating and lost a significant amount of weight and was down to about 21 lbs. HBR made an appointment to help him cross the rainbow bridge, but before his appointment we reached out to an animal communicator. We asked that she let Winston know what was happening and that he knew that we all loved him very much.

The very next day, Winston began eating again. He went to his vet appointment and instead received a B12 injection and some cold laser therapy. We spoke with our animal communicator again a few months later and she recommended acupuncture. Since none of the other therapies we've tried had worked, we thought why not? It can't hurt!

We started taking Winston to acupuncture appointments and he started gaining more strength in his hind legs. He can actually feel his back feet now and he is back to a normal weight! Winston will still be our resident grinch, but he has come such a long way from where he was and we will continue to spoil him. He is currently on several supplements and medications for his legs, so please consider donating to his ongoing medical care.
