Sassy

Picture
Name; Sassy
Age: 2.5
Status: Adopted!

About Sassy:
Thank you to IEBR for helping save this bullies girl! One of their volunteers saw this message and Sassy's photo posted on Facebook:

"My family adopted a 2 1/2 year old retired tri colored English bulldog about 3 months ago and unfortunately due to many issues that were not disclosed to us we have become unable to keep her. Her make is Sassy and she is very sweet but at her first very appointment about ten days after we get her; she was diagnosed with hypothyroidism(original weight was 77lbs) she is currently down to 68 lbs, she had a yeast infection in both of her ears, severely infected anal glands, and a fungal infection that we have been aggressive treating for about two months (shampoo, wipes, cream, and spray). She also has alopecia but we have been told that is due to her not being spayed ( our vet will not spray her until she is at a safe weight), she also has a hernia that our vet said can be fixed at the same time she is spayed, also her bottom eyelids flip in just enough to irritate her eyes. She also eats anything that fits the ground and with two kids at home she has eaten whole sticks, toys, coins, etc. unfortunately we have not been able to stop this behavior. She also is currently needing to be let out about every two hours to go to the bathroom ( if this doesn't happen she has accidents). We have contacted the gentleman who we got her from and his response was basically retired dogs are as is ( even though we were told only about her hernia and that she was overweight- which he said was due to her having puppies) and that he doesn't have any room for any more dogs. We have come to a point that we are not able to keep up with giving Sassy the care that she needs and we are looking for a rescue for her. We have beds, toys, shampoos, medications, hypoallergenic wipes, ear cleaner, medication, grain free treats, grain free pill pockets, medications, bowls, diapers, metabolic dog food that would come with her. We would like to find somewhere as soon as possible and would greatly appreciate any help you could offer. Sassy is a very sweet dog that deserves to find her forever home. Thank you so much for your help, XXXXXXX"

How could we say no to this poor gal and risk her ending up at the hands of perhaps another backyard breeder. No, she'll be safe with HBR now. She'll be spayed, receive proper medical care, and be able to live out her long life in comfort!
Here's what we know so far.....

-She is only 2 1/2 and has been bred 3 times!
-She has entropion and will need surgery to correct it
-She needs to be spayed
-She has hypothyroidism, is significantly overweight, and is on thyroid medication (or was at least prescribed medication - it's unclear yet if she's currently taking it)
-She has a history of yeast infections in both her ears.
-She has a history of severe anal gland infections.
-She also has a fungal infection that her current family has been able to get under control

Sassy's Road Trip to HBR:
Sassy's foster mom snapped some amazing photos of this beautiful girl when she arrived in our care. Stay tuned for more info on this girl!

Sassy had her vet visit today at Healthy Paws Animal Hospital and she did great! She loved the big comfy dog bed they offer while you wait! 💗 Here's what the Good Doc had to say:
  • Sassy does have an eye ulcer on her right eye due to entropion. She has antibiotic eye drops for that.
  • Her thyroid isn't stable so we are going to stop her thyroid meds and recheck in 4 weeks to see how she is doing.
  • She is on an antibiotic for her skin, an antifungal and medicated bath schedule.
  • She has a large umbilical hernia that will need repaired when she is spayed.
  • We did her pre-surgical bloodwork today, fecal and heartworm test. Fingers crossed that there are no surprises there.
  • She needs to work on her diet. Let's start at 5 pounds and see how it goes. 😊
