Pumbaa was an owner surrender due to his tail pocket being infected. Sadly not everyone does research prior to purchasing a dog; bulldogs have many special needs including the cleaning/maintenance of their wrinkles and tail pocket. If this is not done, they can become infected and cause pain and foul odor. Pumbaa is on some heavy antibiotics and is given anxiety meds during grooming. He's just not used to it or has had such a bad previous experience that it's very scary for him now. And given his elongated soft palate, when he gets nervous or scared, his breathing becomes compromised. We are working hard to get him all fixed up and ready for adoption. He is the sweetest most playful boy ever. Great with other dogs and kids...we're working on his manners with cats and that's getting better too! He no longer chases them!
Pumba's tail pocket cleared up a bit on antibiotics but came right back. It's very tight and we can't get in there to properly clean it. Chances are, this kid needs a tail amp....
Surgery for his palate and neuter is 4/23. We'll see if they can do a tail amp at that time also; if not, he will need a second surgery.
4/23/2019 Update - Pumbaa's neuter and palate surgery were successful and he is now in recovery. They were not able to do the tail amputation during this surgery so he will need to recover from the neuter and palate and then will undergo a tail amputation at a later date. Here are some pictures of Pumbaa post surgery:

July 2019- Pumbaa is currently fighting a post-op infection of his airway. But his breathing sounds much better (as in he CAN breath now!) and we hope that he'll be medically cleared soon. His tail amp looks amazing. He's a very healthy happy boy!
We are no longer accepting applications for Pumbaa. We have several approved adopters and it will now be a matter of making the right match for this guy. Thank you!
