Intake Date 4/29/2022 - Alumni Petey reassures Nova it's all ok. We need to get her eyes checked ASAP. Cherry eye is not just a cosmetic issue - it can cause dry eye, ulcers, loss of vision, and sometimes even actual loss of the eye from damage.

5/3/22 - "It's good to start each day with a positive affirmation and a good stretch!"

5/7/22  Update - Nova has a vet appointment the week after next. We went ahead and checked her eyes out. We aren't even sure the tear test got INTO her eye because the cherry eye is so big; she can’t even close her eyes. Her foster mom is keeping them lubricated and cleaning the black gunk off of them throughout the day. We hope her eyesight is not permanently damaged from letting it get this bad.

5/19/22 Update - Guess who was the best girl at the vet today! Labwork sent off. Cherry eye surgery scheduled for 6/13/22. Nova is on a lot of eye meds and will probably always need eye drops due to the neglect in her eyes over the years. Otherwise, she's in pretty good shape! Since we don't know if she's spayed or not, we will try to do an ultrasound the day of the surgery, but she will likely need to be opened up to know for sure.

5/14/22 - "I hear you give new dogs Pup Cups?"

5/22/22 - "Am I exhausted from playing with every toy in the house, or being dramatic after my triple eye medicine regimen?"

5/30/22 Update - Nova is camping with her foster family! Just living it up until her surgery, after which she'll be adoptable!
Picture
5/26/22 Update - Nova's eyes after two weeks of steroids and eye drops. Now she can see that we have snacks!
Picture
6/13/22 Update - Nova got some good snuggles in with foster brother Petey last night. She's off to her surgery now. She's having bilateral cherry eye repair and is being checked to see if she's spayed.

6/13/22 Update Post-Surgery - Nova did great for her eye surgery today! Can she see? We don't know. She's napping until further notice, so we'll keep you posted! She was also spayed today. She has a couple more rechecks over the next two weeks.

6/22/22 Update -
Cherry eye is not just cosmetic. If not surgically corrected, it can lead to dry eye, ulcers, and even the loss of the eye. If your vet is telling you it's ok to not do surgery, get a second opinion. It is NOT fair to your dog to live this way.

7/29/22 update -
Nova is waiting for her forever home! She's doing great post-op and is ready for adoption! She is spayed and has no major health issues. She will likely need eye drops forever, but her vision is much improved since her surgery. She gets along with other dogs and is working on coexisting with cats. Fast movements still make her jumpy. She's great with kids over 10. If you think she would be a fit with your family, please fill out an application for this sweet girl!
