We get a call from Hendricks County Humane Society today. A gentleman walked in with a 15 year old bulldog asking that she be euthanized. Thankfully the shelter called us to see if we could take her. The man was surprised that a rescue would take in such an elderly dog with a known mass on her leg. But this sweet darling deserves to be pampered for whatever time she has left in this lifetime! They dropped her off at Healthy Paws Animal Hospital just as we were closing. A big thank you to Amy and Savanna for staying late to help me clean and rebandage her mass. She has an official appointment Monday morning for the doctor to take a look at her and do bloodwork.
Here are some photos of her just after being surrendered. Her owner said he's had her since she was 8 years old. He got her from someone else who was moving and couldn't (ie, didn't try hard enough) to take her. z
The bandage was sooooo soggy. And the smell.... ugh....

Let's hit the road. I hear you serve real food and not Kibbles n Bits junk. I want double portions please. -Libby
Coryelle was immediately notified. She reached out to let Libby know what was happening. Libby was obviously very scared and confused. Her initial session with Coryelle is below....
Once home she wondered around the house a bit. She so far was not snarky to any of our dogs, although she's only met the senior folks so far :) She barked when crated. She barked when left alone. Panting and pacing. We dosed her up on rescue remedy and piled up some blankets. Thanks to Alexis Donahoe for stepping up immediately to sponsor this senior gal- a bed and some supplements are on their way! We have some Senior food already on hand that was donated from Pet Valu Marwood Plaza.
This weekend will be full of resting and relaxing before the vet visit on Monday. Paws crossed for this darling!
Please consider making a donation to help with her care. She will need full bloodwork and mass removal very soon.

We get it...sometimes it's hard not to judge. But instead of being angry with the family who surrendered this 15 year old gal, let's just be grateful Miss Libby will get medical attention that she needs.
They knew she was suffering. They knew the mass needed removed. They couldn't afford it. They stood at the shelter perhaps thinking they were doing right by ending her suffering. They had no idea rescue could help. But thanks to that shelter who suggested they contact us instead of seeking euthanasia, Libby now has a chance. Who knows how much time she has left, but one thing is for sure, she's not quite ready to leave this life! And we'll pamper her til that time comes!
