The dogs in our care have been legally surrendered to us by their owners or transferred to our organization from a shelter/humane society. If the dog was found as a stray, they have been been posted to Indy Lost Pets, scanned for a microchip, and the local shelter notified. All animals that are transferred from the shelter have been held for the legal stray hold time (this may vary per county ordinance, but is generally between 3-7 days).
All microchips are scanned and attempts are made to contact anyone listed on the chip.
If you believe you are the owner of one of our dogs, and you did not surrender the dog to us, please fill out this form so that we have all pertinent information.
Please know that while we all love a happy ending , we are very protective of these dogs once they are surrendered to us. We go through an extremely thorough vetting process for potential adopters (including phone interview, vet reference check, and home visit). We are just as thorough in ensuring that one's claim to be the owner of a lost / stolen dog is valid.
Please note: If you have previously given your dog away to someone else, you cannot decide you now want the dog back because they were surrendered to rescue by their new owner.
Please know that we love each and every one of these dogs just as much as our own dogs and we will go to the ends of the Earth to provide them with love and medical care. We don’t want them to ever be neglected or abused ever again. Therefore, we respectfully ask that you understand and cooperate in this process for the wellbeing and safety of the dog in question.
