Charlie

Picture
Name: Charlie
Age: Estimated 6-8 years old
Rescue Intake Date: 19 July 2017
Status: Adopted

HBR Medical Care:
Neuter, Entropion surgery, Vaccinations, Heartworm/Fecal Test, Whipworm & Hookworm Treatment

About Charlie:
Charlie was found as a stray. After notifying the local Humane Society and the Sheriff's Dept, he was not claimed by his owners. Charlie is a super friendly goofy guy. Because of his neglected eyes, his vision was significantly impaired when he came to us. Charlie could not see a thing and was in quite a bit of pain with untreated entropion. But since his entropion surgery, his eye sight has drastically improved! He's less anxious, more playful, and a total lover! We can't wait to see this guy settle into his furever home and finally get to relax and just be loved!!

Charlie's Intake Photos:
7/21/2017 Charlie's first vet visit at Healthy Paws Animal Hospital:
After full examination by the vet, it was assessed that he is probably around 6 years old. He has some noted arthritis in his back joints, but nothing too severe.
Our main focus is getting his eyes under control. He'll be on 2 different drops and will soon have entropian repair surgery. He is also on antibiotics and ear meds for his ear infections. He is now up to date on vaccines and will be neutered soon!

July 31 2017 Charlie Update:

He is doing well in foster care- he's bonding with his foster parents, becomingmore sure of his environment, and finally starting to feel safe. He's finishing up his first round of meds for hookworms/whipworms (which will have to be completed again in 3 months). He's also tolerating the continual cleaning of his eyes and ears very well. BUT ....
we desperately need to continue r
aising funds so we can get his surgery for his eyes.

This photo is just before the poor darling ran into the wall! :( He truly can NOT see right now.

Picture
He desperately needs surgery to save his eyesight! Not to mention this is a very painful condition, but without this surgery he risks permanent damage to his eyes. :( We hope to be able to get his surgery done within the next couple weeks when he finishes up his antibiotics. We can't do this without your help.

This poor baby deserves to be able to SEE the faces of the people who are finally showing him LOVE.
He deserves to be able to see the world again .

Please consider making a donation toward Charlie's medical care.

August 3rd Update:

Just look at these beautiful eyes!
Charlie saw the Good Dr Busch on Monday of last week and started eye meds that day. He has to have 3 different drops 3 times a day (2 prescription and 1 lubricant). His foster moms have also been doing at least two warm compresses a day to gently remove the built up gunk.
He has incredibly beautiful eye lashes, but unfortunately they turn in and rub on his eyes. This is causing him a lot of pain and if not surgically corrected, will lead to permanent damage. Our hope is to relieve this incredible boy of his pain and give him back his sight to see this world again!
Please help us raise the funds needed to help this boy see the world bright and clear!!! Make a donation through our youcaring fundraiser:

August 17, 2017 update:

Charlie saw the vet again this past week. His eyes look better on the current medication and he was cleared for entropion surgery (as well as neuter surgery!). His ears still have some debris, but are also looking better. He is to continue ear medication/flushing.

Charli eunderwent entorpion surgery and neuter surgery today. He did great! He'll be in a cone for about 10-14 days to protect the sutures around his eyes.

Update from Charlie:
Back at the vet for wound flushing and then off to a new foster home where they can monitor me all during the day. I somehow got an infection and my whole back leg is swollen like a sausage. It's draining now and the swelling is going down. I started a couple antibiotics and of course pain meds. Good news is my eyeballs are looking good and I can see everyone. So that's pretty cool. But the bad news is HBR is still paying off my first vet bill and now I may have added some extra digits to the total due at another clinic with my little emergency! Oops. Sorry guys.  - ❤️- Charlie

Still draining! Charlie saw the vet today and she flushed out the wound really well and did a cold laser session on the wound.. She also sent Charlie's foster  mom home with more fluids to continue flushing it daily, as well as a cream to apply to the wound.

In just 24 hours of antibiotics, it's already looking better!

He goes back next week for another recheck and to remove the sutures around his eyes.

Charlie is completely healed from is little set back a few weeks ago. Boy oh boy, did he enjoy all the TLC that was involved with his recovery! He got laser therapy from the vet office every other day, ice packs three times a day, wound flushing and loooooots of medications wrapped in cheese. We are done with all treatments and medications but Charlie can hear a cheese wrapper from a mile every time now! I think that is forever imbedded in his memory.
Charlie really is doing fabulous! He is a happy, active boy with a heart of gold. We are working on some basic manners, and he seems to be a fast learner! Charlie would be great with a family with kids, cats and/or other dogs because he loves everyone! Charlie always has plans for the day, therefore a family that is willing to go for daily walks, play outside, take him for rides, etc., is his ideal candidate.
