Hi! My name is Lola! As you can see from my photo, I have the best smile! I am an approximately 4 year old spayed female. I’m just a little nugget weighing in at only around 30 pounds.
I love playing with toys and sunbathing outside. Unfortunately I have renal displays and kidney disease; although the vets only gave me less than a year, I’ve been kicking it here in the HBR Sanctuary for well over that! I’m not available for adoption as I’m a permanent foster; but please check out all my friends who are waiting for their forever homes. And if you’d like to make a donation towards my ongoing care, I would very much appreciate it. I’m still here loving life because of donations and support from people like you!

Welcome to rescue Lola!
Lola was unable to be bred, so she was sold to a nice family a couple months ago. But she has a LOT of issues going on that they weren't able to treat. We'll post more once she sees a vet and we know everything that is going on.....but we know she'll need to be treated for ear infections, possible UTI, and will need a mass removal. Please help us get set up with some healthy supplements and treats. We already have food donated from Pet People (thank you!), so she'll be trialing Open Farm to see how she does. We'll get her going with some Golden Paste to try to reduce the tumor as well. She'll likely need a lot of work to get healthy but she is SWEET as can be and deserves a chance! Please consider donating to my care! ~Thank you!

Lola pupdate (it’s a long one)
We got the lab work back from Lola‘s vet visit last week… She does have a UTI which we are treating. This likely is what is
causing her many accidents inside. She does make attempts to let you know when she hast to go potty, so we’re thinking
once the UTI is treated, she will be potty trained. Unfortunately her labs also showed she’s in stage to kidney disease. But it’s important to note she was eating a very poor quality food prior to coming into rescue. It is not uncommon for all of the dogs we get in who are eating grocery store brand foods to have issues with their kidneys and bladder. kibbles n bits has even tested positive for having the drug pentobarbital in it. This is the euthanasia drug. Stop and think what quality of meat goes into
a food in order for this drug to potentially be in there. Please please please stop feeding these foods. Anyway, we need to
get this girl started on a raw diet. We w ill be starting her on the Answers Pet Food kidney protocol. This has worked amazing for Dorothy and SugarBear for their kidney failure. Getting her off a carb heavy diet of kibble will also be important for her mass (picture 2- look how big it is!! ). We don’t know what it is just yet. She has a surgery date of January 27 for its removal and biopsy. Our vet has concerns that is going to be a bit of a tougher removal since it appears to be attached. She can’t get her fingers underneath it when she feels around it. We’ve also started her on golden paste and AnimalEO dump-a-lump hoping to shrink it a little between now and surgery. Also included in this post are two photos of the sutures that we removed from her incision. She has no reported surgeries from the previous family or the breeder. However obviously there was a surgery. We’re guessing
C-section. We don’t know if she was spayed at that time, we’re going to guess not. So when the vet does the mass removal, she’s also going to do an exploratory surgery to confirm spay. If she’s not spayed, we will do that at that time as well. Lastly, her
eyes have entropion all four lids (where the eye lashes roll in and rub the eyes.) this is very painful and the constant rubbing
can cause ulcers on the eyes. However, the vet noted that the eyelashes are in a weird placement even for entropion. So, she’s recommending following up with an eye specialist just to confirm the appropriate surgical intervention. So honestly we’re
not sure if we’re going to wait until after her mass removal to see the eye specialist, or go ahead and schedule that
appointment now… This girl has a lot going on and as a matter of just trying to get everything in the right timeline for her.
But we’ll get it all done. I know it’s just after the holidays but if you can donate towards her care, it’s greatly appreciated.
Thank you!!

The week after a holiday is always longest week ever Lola PUPDATE: Going in Thursday for a urine culture. Not sure antibiotics are working well enough , so after consulting with the vet, we stopped them yesterday and will culture Thursday. We generally start with a urinalysis which just says yes or no if bacteria is present. If so we start with a broad spectrum antibiotic that should wipe out most UTIs. A culture, which is more expensive, will tell us exactly what bacteria is present and what’s antibiotics it’s sensitive/resistant to. |
Soooo I had a situation over the weekend my face like blew up. DON’T WORRY. I’m ok now. I had lots of Benadryl and the swelling came down. I’m back to my BEAUTIFUL self today. We fink it was a reaction to a new wrinkle paste. Won’t be using dat again!! Don’t forget I have my mass removal and spay this week. Pawsitive thoughts appreciated! - Lola Edit : we usually use AnimalEO French green clay in the wrinkles. That’s our recommendation. this is the result of trying something new LOL |
Was there really no afternoon surgery drop off available? You know I’m not a morning person. And what’s with the no breakfast? So far today sucks. -Lola Today’s the big day for Lola! Well one of two big days… She will need two surgeries. Today she’s going in for a mass removal and exploratory spay. The mass looks like it’s going to be a pretty tricky one to remove, so please send some pawsitive thoughts her way |
My surgery went well!!!! I’m awake - well I’m actually napping but I’m not under anesthesia anymore. You know what I mean ) My mass looks like just cystic fluid and a lot of scar tissue that was attaching it to the tissue wall. We’re sending it out just to be sure it’s nothing worrisome. An exploratory surgery revealed I wasn’t spayed (I am now ) and lots of internal sutures that hadn’t dissolved yet. No more puppies for me. After I heal from this I’ll be going for a consult for my eyeballs. A huge thank you to All Pup Love for their donation to my surgery!!!! This helps so much!!! |
Lola is getting pre op bloodwork today just to make sure all is still ok. She’s undergoing a vaginal rejuvenation in a couple weeks. Seriously. It’s complicated but essentially the shape of her vulva is harboring bacteria so she is getting chronic UTI’s. She has one again- a week after being off antibiotics ((sigh)). So this should help prevent more UTIs from happening. She’s already on a high moisture diet (Answers Pet Food kidney protocol) and gets d-mannose and berry boost. We’ll also add in tinkle tonic. But all of that won’t solve the problem until she gets her corrective surgery. (Alumni Penny continues to be her emotional support dog through this difficult time) |
Lola's photo shoot! Thank you The Good Dog Photography!
Preop meds down the hatch
Surgery tomorrow. Wish me luck!!! -Lola |
Update : I’m awake and in recovery!!! Surgery went well. I’m on lots of pain meds now. Hopefully the recovery is not so bad. They removed a lot of excess skin that was trapping bacteria. I’m also now sporting a full on Brazilian wax Thanks for all the well wishes! -Lola
PS check out my cute shirt by @mecustomdesigns my Valentine sent it to me all the way from Ireland. Thanks @collinsthebulldog |
Happy National Puppy Day- shouldn’t we get a second dinner or something to celebrate? -Lola

My eye surgery is this Thursday!!! I’m very exited to see treaties better

I am getting my eye lift today! This *should be* my last surgery! Wohoo! -Lola
Lola has a condition called entropion , where her eyelids roll inwards and the lashes rub on the eye. This is painful, and can cause dry eye, scarring, and ulcers. Most cases can be corrected with surgery, although some cases continue to have problems. This is most often a genetic condition, so if your puppy develops it, you should inform your breeder. An ethical breeder will make changes to their breeding line to decrease the chances of entropion. We must start holding breeders accountable for the continuation of genetic problems in our breed. Breeders must do better if we have any hope for a healthy bulldog in the future. |
Late night Lola update.
Honestly I don’t even know where to begin. A little history may be helpful.
Lola was surrendered w/ Stage 2 kidney disease & a UTI. We started treatment & got her on Answers Kidney Protocol Diet. She also needed a mass removal, spay, & entropion surgery….Well over the course of the last 6 months while she got each of these surgeries, she’s had back to back UTIs. Our vet even reconstructed her vulva so that it would not harbor bacteria. We assumed we found/fixed underlying problem, so we started reviewing apps after her final eye surgery. We had selected the perfect furever home for her, & her adoption was pending at the end of this month. Unfortunately, she started showing symptoms of yet another UTI. So at this point we moved forward with an abdominal ultrasound to see if there was something else going on. The results were not good. Her kidneys are basically malformed to a degree that “she probably won’t have a long life.” This news was devastating. She’s such a happy silly YOUNG girl. These kind of kidney issues are genetic, & the reason we keep fighting for better breeding.
So where do we go from here? We still aren’t sure exactly what the prognosis is. But this is the game plan:
She's starting 2 new antibiotics. She will need to see the vet every 2 weeks to check the kidneys on ultrasound & measure the renal pelvis. If not improving, the next step would be to perform a direct culture of the renal pelvis in case this has a different bacteria. She is also starting estrogen in case she has subclinical incontinence.
So right now, her adoption is on hold. She may be hospice (1 year was the timeframe given for her kidneys). We’re hoping for a miracle. But until then, her foster will be spoiling her rotten. And of course, a bucket list starts now!
If you would like to suggest a bucket list item, please donate $10+ and note your suggestion in the memo. We pay for these suggestions out of our own personal pockets, but the donations are a way to raise more money for their ongoing medical bills.

Thank you and we will update as soon as we have more results in.
Was supposed to have an ultrasound recheck today but I was reportedly “too gassy” to get a clear image.
That’s just rude I’m going back tomorrow to try again.
