We talk a lot about healthy diet - but what you feed as treats is important too! There are some very scary ingredients in popular pet treats. There is very little regulation that goes into pet food/treats in the United States. It's hard to believe that some of these ingredients are not only allowed but very common. You may hear these company's speak out saying that they use "so little of these ingredients that they are harmless." Well personally I don't want my pets consuming ANY amount of the following-
Of course there's a scale of healthiness. We still feed some treats that are not the absolute best, but they also don't contain toxic ingredients. There's always that happy medium.
And when training your dog , you want a wide variety of treats. Think of "trail mix" ... you have the ok treats and then the super high value treats for those big rewards (like coming when called during distractions!)
